Introducing the Automatic Chlorination

and Online Monitoring System.

Safe Water Network developed the Automatic Chlorination and Online Monitoring (ACOM) system, a game-changing innovation for ensuring last mile safe water service delivery to communities.

By the Numbers

1,000,000

The Government of India is committed to building one million overhead tanks by 2029.

The Challenge: India faces a pressing issue: 80% of underground water and 70% of surface water sources are tainted, posing serious water quality concerns. Alarmingly, diarrhea is a major contributor to childhood mortality, accounting for 13% of annual child deaths.

The key to combating diarrhea lies in a simple yet effective solution: treating drinking water with chlorine. Chlorination is safe, low-cost, and proficient in neutralizing disease-causing microbes. However, it’s efficacy diminishes over time and distance.

Safe Water Network developed the Automatic Chlorination and Online Monitoring (ACOM) system, a game-change for ensuring last mile safe water service delivery to communities.

Automatic Chlorination: Our device, the chlorinator, connects to the water supply system. It stores chlorine in a chamber and releases a tiny amount into the water as it flows through. Overhead tanks installed by the government act as checkpoints to monitor water quality levels, ensuring safety before reaching households, clinics, and schools.

Harnessing Digital Precision: The ACOM system continually monitors chlorine levels and promptly sends alerts to maintain optimal concentrations. Real-time data is easily accessible through digital platforms, enabling timely decisions and ensuring a constant supply of safe water, anytime and anywhere.

Rapid Responsiveness: The ACOM system streamlines the often-manual task of data collection, minimizing travel and laboratory involvement. With immediate access to water quality data, corrective actions are prompt and efficient.

Versatile and Adaptable: Our robust chlorinators can be seamlessly integrated into various points within the water supply chain, from pipelines to overhead tanks and even individual homes. Not only are they cost-effective, but they’re also scalable, ensuring long-term sustainability.

Harmonizing with National Initiatives: The ACOM system aligns harmoniously with the Jal Jeevan Mission, aiming to provide piped water access to all rural households by 2024. By ensuring safe drinking water, we contribute to the mission’s success, and, in turn, the well-being of communities. We further empower local operators through water quality and data management training.

In our pursuit of safe and clean water, we’re not just pioneering a solution- we’re elevating the quality of life for countless individuals. Together, we’re reshaping the landscape of water safety and health in the country.

Looking Forward: ACOM was presented as an innovative solution at the 2022 Stockholm World Water Week (SIWI) with participation from the Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti. The program is now poised for replication at scale in urban towns and cities.
