15th Beyond the Pipe Forum in Accra Advances Innovation for Sustainable Water Access

Safe Water Network successfully hosted the 15th Beyond the Pipe Forum on March 19th in Accra, Ghana, bringing together over 100 participants from government, industry, development partners, and the water sector. The forum, titled Innovating for Sustainable Safe Water Access, spotlighted the latest challenges and innovations shaping Ghana’s efforts to achieve universal and sustainable water access.

The event also marked the official launch of Safe Water Network’s Waves of Change Campaign, a global initiative designed to raise awareness and mobilize investment to scale sustainable, women-led safe water enterprises. As part of the launch, attendees experienced the debut of a VR short film, offering an immersive look at the daily lives of local water station operators and the transformational impact of community-managed water systems.

Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Ghana’s Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, opened the forum with a keynote emphasizing the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among public, private, and development actors to scale up safe water solutions.

Distinguished speakers included:

  • Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, Acting Director-General, National Development Planning Commission
  • Ekow Archer, CEO, Cleanearth Scientific
  • Professor Lydia Mosi, Associate Professor, University of Ghana
  • Ing. Harold Esseku, Senior Sanitation and Water Specialist, World Bank Ghana Office

The event addressed practical and scalable approaches to sustainable water provision, including climate-resilient infrastructure, improved water quality, and private sector engagement. It also showcased successful models and innovations led by Safe Water Network and partners.

This year’s forum was made possible with the generous support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Stone Family Foundation, Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, Interplast, Saha Global, EasyWater for Everyone, Duraplast, Kekom Ventures Ghana Limited, and Liason.

A full recap and highlights from the event will be published soon.
