Innovative Water Solutions Front and Center at Safe Water Network’s 2024 Beyond the Pipe Forum
Safe Water Network hosted its 10th annual Beyond the Pipe Forum in Accra, under the theme “Safe Water: The Power of Enterprise.” This crucial gathering brought together nearly 200 leaders from the public sector, private sector, and development partners to discuss the expansion of safe water enterprises (SWEs) and the delivering of water services to an estimated 3.2 million people in over 1,000 peri-urban communities and small towns in Ghana by 2030.
Mr. Charles Nimako, Country Director of Safe Water Network, in his opening remarks, emphasized the significant strides made by SWEs in improving market presence and service delivery. “Our collective effort over the past few years has led to a significant improvement in the market for safe water enterprises. Collectively, SWEs have invested over $20 million in the water sector, delivering safe, reliable, and affordable water services to over 2 million people across all 16 regions in Ghana,” he said.
The Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Honourable Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, officiating the forum, underscored the need for collaboration between non-state water service providers and the Ghana Government. He praised Safe Water Network for its extensive contributions to water services and advocacy for sustainable water services in Ghana. “As a government, we have been striving to improve access to potable water in small towns and peri-urban centers, and we view the collaboration with the Safe Water Alliance as key to achieving SDG 6,” he noted.
Safe Water Network, an international non-profit organization, leverages best practices, tools, and expertise to enhance the performance of community-based safe water solutions with partners from the public, private, and NGO sectors. The event generated a lot of pre and post-event press. Here are a handful of links to those articles:
