In Memory Of Our Founding Board Member, John C. Whitehead

On February 7th, John C. Whitehead, a founder and champion of Safe Water Network, passed away at the age of 92. He was a man of enormous vision and integrity and his loss has been deeply felt throughout our organization.

Along with Paul Newman and other civic leaders he cofounded Safe Water Network. They believed the world’s water crisis could be solved by putting to work the resources and expertise of larger organizations to make a difference for those most in need. Today, we are proud of our network of partners and the important impact we’ve made in Ghana and India.

It was a privilege to have known Mr. Whitehead and to have benefited from his experience and wisdom.  He had a remarkable gift, balancing firm principles with a light touch. Never looking for credit and only inserting himself when he thought necessary, he succeeded in moving groups to better places. A remarkable leader, mentor, partner and friend, he will be deeply missed.

On behalf of all of us at Safe Water Network in Ghana, India and New York, I extend the deepest condolences to Mrs. Whitehead and extended family.
