Safe Water Network Receives Rotary Grant For Schools Partnership With UNICEF

The Bridgeport Rotary Club Foundation, Inc., a Rotary International affiliate located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, recently awarded Safe Water Network with a grant in support of a schools program being implemented in partnership with UNICEF-Ghana. The program connects Safe Water Stations to schools in the Volta region of Ghana, bringing treated water to approximately 400 students.

As Rotary International and its Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group recognize, the benefit of school connections is essential: by having water in the school, students, especially girls, spend less time collecting water and more time learning. This simple improvement elevates student performance, as healthy students are able to attend more days of school. These students in turn become change-agents in the community, influencing more people to drink pure water.

The partnership with UNICEF-Ghana aligns with UNICEF’s WASH Programme, which aims to increase sustainable and equitable access to and improved usage of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services.

Rotary International is a service organization comprised of 1.2 million individuals and more than 35,000 clubs around the world.
