2013 Ghana Beyond the Pipe Forum

Safe Water Network hosted its fourth Beyond the Pipe Forum in Ghana, bringing together leaders from the public and private sector to discuss ways to address Ghana’s safe water challenges.

Ghana’s Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, the Honorable Collins Dauda, gave the keynote address and offered an invitation to all stakeholders, including the private sector, to provide input on how new technology, expertise and resources can help with the implementation of the National Water Policy and its accompanying Water Sector Strategic Development Plan (2012-2025).

Fred Addae, Director of the Water Directorate of the Ghana Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing delivering a speech on behalf of Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing at a Safe Water Network forum entitled “Beyond the Pipe: Achieving Local Sustainability” in Accra, Ghana on 20 March 2013.

Safe Water Network’s Joseph Ampadu-Boakye presented the findings from the Ghana Sector Review, a comprehensive review and analysis of the present and potential role market-based approaches in safe water provision in underserved markets. This work was funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and built upon the knowledge we’ve developed during our four years overseeing market based initiatives in Ghana.

Breakout sessions focused on the key success drivers and challenges for ensuring local sustainability in safe water access and addressed key thematic areas including local capacity, policy environment, economics, finance, consumer and technology.

The recommendations that came out of the day’s events will be compiled and shared with sector stakeholders in Ghana and globally.
