Insights from the Free Water Mandate in Ghana

In late March 2020, the Government of Ghana mandated that all water utility providers must provide free water to all Ghanaians for 8 months to alleviate the health and economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this report, we detail how Safe Water Network Ghana achieved key objectives and provide an overview of the financial impact of the mandate on our water station operations.

Safe Water Resilience Toolkit

Safe Water Network and Envicom Corporation have partnered to develop a ‘Safe Water Resilience Toolkit’ that integrates various sources of data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping capabilities for visualization and data analysis. In-country laboratory capability for drinking water testing is limited in Ghana, and COVID-19 has exacerbated issues of transport and turnaround time for testing of water samples by nationally recognized labs. New advancements in on-site testing at H2OME! Water Stations cut timing of returned results from weeks to hours while reducing operational expenses.
